If this is a precurser of what the rest of the holidays are going to be like, we’re going to have to come home early to recover :(. We found a campground at 11 (Alberta time) just before Valleyview. The girls weren’t asleep yet (it wasn’t dark yet, and besides, they didn’t want to miss any excitement). So , we made our beds and quickly settled in for what we hoped would be a good night’s sleep.
It started less than an hour later, when Talia crawled into our bed after a coughing fit. Despite cough candies, we couldn’t get her to settle and stop thrashing about – until we FINALLY realized that it wasn’t the cough, but the mosquitoes that had been feasting on her earlier that were causing the problems. Some cream and some long pajama pants later, we breathed a sigh of relief.
It was not to be. Talia wasn’t even solidly asleep yet when Kaisa woke up – screaming. She wanted some juice and was totally distressed that the sippy cups in the trailer weren’t the same as the sippy cups back home. Absolutely nothing would calm her down- Kevin even took her on a walk down to the lake in the wee hours of the morning. She’d ocassionally settled for a minute or two, and then she’d start screaming again. Kevin FINALLY got her to drink some juice from a normal cup – after which she started screaming again, but this time clutching her ear and telling us how much it hurt. Some Ibuprofen, and the ordeal was over. The time: almost 4.
That said, we got over 4 hours uninterrupted sleep, we found a nice park in Stoney Plain for lunch, and there’s a slight chance the girls might nap for the rest of the drive … Things can only look up from here…
